Something I Do Not Like

I'm not a big fan of the use of "How's it going?" or "How are you doing?" as a generic greeting. These are both questions, and demand something other than "hi," or worse, "How are you?" I know it is more difficult, but either ask/answer the question, or stop doing that!

You mean like-such as when you're passing someone in the hallway, walking in opposite directions? Because I'll agree it's annoying to try and fit in the whole "Going well, how about with you?" "Just fine, thanks." in the span of a second and a half or so. But I'm not sure I see the problem if it's merely the gateway to a longer interaction.

This was unclear; I mean as a greeting in passing, not as the opening for a longer interaction.

"How are you?" is not the correct response to "How's it going?" Or vice versa.
