The pencil-case. I see a lot of these things around. Perhaps it's an affectation of the well-off dork (in my cohort). I don't want a little bag for my writing utensils. Nor a hard-sided case. It just doesn't appeal to me.
Eleanor McEvoy has a number of lovely songs. Whisper a Prayer to the Moon is beautiful. Great lyric: If I had the powers/I'd give you the stars/the sun and the light/of the moon.
Dark Sun:The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb, by Richard Rhodes. discusses the nuclear arms race. Pretty freaking insane.

I was under the impression that pencil cases weren't much in use past elementary school. I certainly haven't run into them all that much since then.
Canadians have an inordinate fondness, and undergrads at school do, too.
